Summer Reading Continued

posted on May 15, 2018 by Eve Panzer

Since summer reading is so important I am going to focus on it again this month. Reading Rockets has a sister website called Start with a Book. It is an amazing resource for summer books and activities to go along with them. The site has the books organized by these topics:

Science, Math and Nature with subtopics such as Dinosaurs, Weather, Flight, Money.
Social Studies with subtopics such as Cooking & Food, Civics & Government, Families & Communities.
Arts & Literature with subtopics such as Arts & Artists, Poetry, Music & Musicians.
Be sure to check it out and share it with your community!

I will have a wide array of books for sale and will be offering an educator discount. We can also discuss any book needs you have for your school and classroom for the 2018 – 2019 school year.

International Literacy Association Annual Conference July 20 – July 22
If you are attending the International Literacy Association Annual Conference in Austin in July, please visit me at the Dawn Publications booth. I will be selling books for Dawn Publications, but I will also be there to talk about my consulting business.

Summer Sun Risin’

A fun book to share with your younger students as the school year ends is Summer Sun Risin’. This book is great for a read aloud with its bouncy rhythm. The book follows the main character, a young African American boy, as he tags along with his family doing their daily chores on their farm. It harks back to the 1950’s on a Texas farm. The illustrations are colorful and cheerful, and the sun is a prominent element in the pictures. The illustrator of the book is celebrated artist and author Don Tate who lives here in Austin. I had the privilege of meeting him just as this book was published.

I will not be publishing a newsletter in June or July.
However, please contact me during the summer with any book needs you have! I know educators continue to think about and plan for their classes during the summer. Let me know what you are working on for the fall. I would be happy to recommend and sell you some great books to enhance and enrich your lesson plans.

Have a wonderful summer and happy reading!
