“Read Your World 2026 is in its 14th year! Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen founded this non-profit children’s literacy initiative; they are two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural, diverse books and authors on the market while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators.
Read Your World’s mission is to raise awareness of the need to include kids’ books celebrating diversity in homes and school bookshelves. Read about our Mission and history HERE.”
Read Your World Day, previously known as Multicultural Children’s Book Day, is January 29. Each year, reviewers like me and bloggers receive 1-3 diverse books to review in January. These reviews are posted not only on each reviewer’s/blogger’s site, but also in one place, so that teachers, educators, librarians, parents, and book sellers can find a convenient place to learn about the many new, diverse books available.
On Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 8 pm EST, Read Your World Day is celebrating its 14th year with a virtual party! You can register here. It is a fun and fast-paced hour that includes discussions of multicultural and diverse books and other timely issues, as well as diverse book recommendations and reading ideas. There is also a book bundle giveaway!
